Occupational mobility: theory and estimation for Italy

This paper presents a model where intergenerational occupational mobility is the joint outcome of three main determinants: income incentives, equality opportunity and changes in composition occupations. The rationalizes use transition matrices to measure mobility, which allows for identification asymmetric patterns formulation specific index each determinant. Italian children born 1940-1951 had lower with respect those after 1965. steady 1965, however, covers structural favour upper-middle classes higher downward from classes. Equality was far perfection but Changes incentives instead played major role, leading upward class.
